Retouching photographs is a job best served by restraint. There is so much you can do to a photo, often one doesn’t know when to stop. Photos are light. If we had the ability to light every shot as we ultimately wished, the world would be a very different place. The power of retouching is knowing when conditions are not perfect, and being able to project forward into creating the image you want by knowing what you can control at the scene, and what you can do in post.
